I think a couple weeks after I first heard about this powerful movement, I bought myself a t-shirt! And I am so glad I did!!!
I love this strength, dedication, passion and love behind this movement!! This movement helps me to remember that every day is Black History Month because I am part of this formidable race! I take pride in who I am, in my community and in my Culture.
My t-shirt is through-provoking, intellect, truth and style and I must say, I do wear it fabulously!! :-D
As i end this comment, I want to say – an excerpt from my blog -http://pastexotic.wordpress.com/2011/01/27/what-will-we-tell-our-children/ -
(Excerpt from my blog – A very wise man, a Pan Africanist Americ…an writer, historian, professor, and a pioneer in the creation of Africana studies and professional institutions in academia starting in the late 1960s, Dr. Henry Clark once said, “what will we tell our children? At what point do we sit down and not argue about t.v, at what time do we sit down and tell simple stories about our revolutionary heritage and get it across to our children, we have the longest revolutionary heritage of any people on the face of the earth. We have fought longer and harder, and against great odds than any people on the face of earth, why do our children not know this. Because if they knew this and they loved themselves, none of them would put poison in their veins, if they knew this they would know that a code of conduct is expected of them. They cannot afford to live selfishly, their conduct must reflect the best and a whole people and when someone tries to lead them in ways not of their liking, they should have enough sense of their own selves on this earth to say ‘we are not a people that engage in things of that nature’. We are not a people demean ourselves in that way, but for them to know this – they have to know what kind of society produced them.”)
    - So I thank you for this movement, because even when my mouth is closed, my ‘Liwi68′ shirt speaks volumes!!

Patience is indeed a virtue but patience without wisdom is can only bring about folly. Know the difference between when to be patient and when to take action.

Live It, Wear It 68 represents the best of the best in Toronto fashion, music, culture, love and wisdom. These brothers and sisters are nothing less than the modern day kings and queens of the future of the world, as I believe in my family and friends in art to light the path to a brighter tomorrow, more than the selfish leaders controlling the world now. Goddess bless you all for supporting LIWI68 and all the wisdom it shares in both word and action. Love and only more love.

  • CrabDragon76

This is a “For Us By Us” movement that I can truly support to the fullest. Not only is the clothing line (thus far) sharp and stylish, but the message is poignantly clear and “Louder Than A Bomb”! We need to share knowledge because that empowers generations and can break down the barriers that our parents, grandparents, & further ancestors have fought long and hard to chip away at. Sadly we still live in a world of darkness that is begging for the light this message can bring. Power to the people ya’ll!

I would just give a big shout and big ups to this Brother who is constantly and is consistent at his vision of uniting the people and having us move in a postive direction. It is not to often artist reach out to other artist inorder to create a larger artform much less a movement and I must say kudos for doing so. We are growing as a force and as a intertwine and connected postive community who educate and inspire. You dun know we must continue to live it and wear it like the skin we are in. Black is unity.

  • joanne

    Mark,

Nuff respect, admiration, and inspiration. You continue to move the conversation forward so that specifically our people, and more importantly all people, can continue to strive for more. A constant reminder that in our own personal lives we all are standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before us and afforded us the opportunities that we do have. Real recognize real. Whatever you need, I got you.

Mark, this is a great campaign. It is time for us to take control of life, and take responsibility for our actions as a unified people, irrespective of race, gender, color, religious preferences – Unity is what we need.

  • Jcieciorka

You should give homage to the artist that made this symbol of the clenched fist a movement icon for political consciousness in the 1960′s. His name was Frank Cieciorka. Look him up and learn about this tenacious soul. – he was my brother!

  • Anonymous

    Good afternoon James,

It is a great pleasure and honor that you have stumbled across our page and commented on our site. We acknowledge that your brother Frank Cieciorka was the artist who used the iconic symbol of the fist in various social movement posters for “change” in the early 60s. For the most part, Frank can be considered the founder or rather pioneer in the “fist” becoming such a powerful symbol worldwide.

We would love to pay homage to your brother by profiling his bio and some of his work on our site. There are limited images and information pertaining to his life and his work so perhaps you can assist us with some material to share his story. We had featured the article titled “Brief History of the Clenched Fist” on our site below, where it did mention your brother’s name and showed some of his earlier images.

    http://www.liwi68.com/2011/03/a-brief-history-of-the-clenched-fist/

Being an artist/graphic designer myself, I appreciate and respect what your brother has and intended to do through

his work/images. One particular piece that I would like to get more information on is this pic of Nate Turner that he did.

    http://www.docspopuli.org/images/Cieciorka_images/07_0913_007.jpg

If you could provide a bigger copy of this image, or perhaps point me in the right direction as to where I can find this image featured, or would be greatly appreciated.

Once again, thank you for visiting our site and we here at LIWI68 look forward to hearing from you. Also check out http://www.johncarlos68.com another one of the sites I created specifically for Dr. John Carlos.

    Cheers,

    Mark Stoddart
    President of LIWI68
