There is an explosive and charismatic face in Comedy. Described by many as hilarious and that is just an understatement! Jay Martin has shielded his early life tragedies with a comedic front. Rather than showing his pain and allowing people to feel sorry for him, Martin became the neighbourhood clown and made people laugh everywhere he went. Born of Jamaican decent, Martin was always the entertainer; Martin’s first big success came in 1997 when he and his brother’s band, Devon & the Metro Squad, received a JUNO award for best Rap & R&B album.
One of Martin’s closest friend suggested that he try his hand at comedy, a logical choice for those that knew him growing up. At his first show Martin was nervous. Following the show, Martin said, “I couldn’t believe how much people were feeling my comedy.” The standing ovation after the show was all the proof he needed that he could do this comedy thing. .
Jay Martin’s comedy is a must see. His refreshing style of humour will have you laughing uncontrollably as he takes you on a journey like none other. Once you see him on stage, you can’t imagine that there is any other place he’d rather be.
